Dreamwork Group for Therapists

I am forming an ongoing weekly therapy group for psychotherapists to work with their dreams.

Time: Mondays 6:00-7:30pm weekly

Location: in person in Hayes Valley, San Francisco

Cost: $100 per session

Dreams reflect contents being worked through by the mind, outside of conscious awareness. They may be problem-solving; they may bring corrective emotional experiences; they may adjust or complement the waking mind’s attitudes. Most people find that following one’s dreams over time is productive and illuminating.

Working with dreams in a group setting is very intimate, and involves relating to oneself and others in a deep way.

In this dreamwork group for therapists participants will make meaning of each other’s dreams, focusing on personal development, as well as on relational processes in the group, and on the development of the group as a whole. It will be at times emotionally intense.

Many therapists are curious about dreams but feel they haven’t learned as much about them as they would like. Also, many therapists find that their clients bring dreams and want to talk about them in individual therapy. I’m often asked by colleagues and clients for recommended readings about dreams. But I find it difficult to make a recommendation. Dreams are not intellectual in nature. They tend to have their own logic that is not rational. They are essentially relational, concerning relationships within the psyche, with others, and with the environment. Being in one’s own group-relational process of working with dreams is, in my experience, the best possible way of learning about dreams and about working with them. They are to be engaged with, not necessarily ever fully understood.

Note that we will not be working with clients’ dreams in this group.

Time: Mondays 6:00-7:30pm weekly

Location: in person at 459 Fulton Street, San Francisco (in Hayes Valley, accessible by Muni and BART)

Cost: $100 per session, charged at the beginning of the month

If you are interested, I am happy to speak with you on the phone for 10 minutes about it. We can then have two or three 50-minute preliminary sessions one-on-one together in person (at a cost of $190 each) to determine the best fit for you. If you join the group, there is an initial 4-month commitment.
